Our family spent the day completing the auction item to be sold we hope at this years Northern Folk Gathering put on by my Kindred. It is a set of the Elder Futhark Runes burned into slices of wood from our last years Yule tree. The pieces are sealed with Linseed oil for protection. Here are some pictures.

Woohoo, this Viking is heading North
Everett and I are headed to the Northland for a few days to hang out with the Kindred at the Northern Folk Gathering! We are so excited to see our kin again.

Great article on religions
I am going to start trying to post more here, so I will start with an article I found through one of the Heathen/Asatru lists I read. It was a refreshing read on how all religions need to respect each other.

This is great
You Might be Asatru If . . . .
You hear a thunderstorm coming and think "Great! When will it be here?"
You were asking your parents for blades, bows and spears when other children were asking for dolls.
Oak trees feel like old friends
When other people talk about hunting boar, you are the only one who realizes that the boar might win the contest.
When you see a beautiful amber necklace, you convince yourself that a late car payment is OK.
When other people see a raven and call it a pest, you listen to find out if it is a messenger.
When someone says they found a bog, you think you would like to see it.
You leave a bit of something for the "little people" in the house . . . just in case.
Honor, kin, loyalty and self-reliance are not just words to you.
You are trained in a martial art
Horses seem to be more than just pets.
Putting years worth of food away was an idea you had long before the Y2K hype ever hit.
Making quality things means you have to learn how to do it yourself, and you see it as fun.
When someone mentions bonfires, you think, "We just don't have enough of those."
You would rather go down fighting on your feet than be patted on the head for living on your knees.
You would rather help the other person go down fighting for trying to keep you on your knees :^)
Mead is a drink you really want to try.
You never really felt that being a sheep was a good thing.
You bought a copy of "13th Warrior" because there was something about the way those guys approached life and death that seemed good to you.
"Full measure" is what you want, what you give and what you know you should get in your heart.
Strong women do not scare you, nor strong men.
You rage like a berserker at the Phone Company and then forget why you were so angry a few minutes later.
Stones seem wonderfully alive and full of stories to tell.

Wow, this was the change we elected?
I for one am beginning to see what folks are talking about with Obama. I mean he flip-flops more than a dying fish in the sun. I am waiting for Americans to get off their asses and start demanding some performance from the people we hired to run this country, but I am worried that will never happen.

America does not have an official religion
I would like to say this to my employees i.e. all federal politicians due to this letter addressed to the President on his lack of using the word God in his speeches.
Your God is not my God and may or may not be the President's God and I take offense that you assume we are all Christians. I warn you now, do not attempt to make America have a national religion which is seems you want, it will have dire consequences for those who do, as history as told.

Another lesson in our countries social/class inequalities
I am really wondering how Americans can be so stupid and blind to the social inequalities in our country when commercials like this just reinforce the truth.
Do we really think we do not live in a caste society in America?
